Why Junior Golf Matters: Inside the PG Junior Academy

Every academy we run, whether it's Atalaya, Mijas, Magna Marbella or PG Indoor, shares the same belief: the earlier a child falls in love with golf, the further they can take it. That's why the Junior Academy sits right at the centre of what we do, not as an add-on to the adult programme, but as its own structured pathway from age five through to competitive golf.

It starts with our Junior Golf Schools, split into levels by age and ability. Level 1 is for complete beginners, mostly focused on making the game fun and building the basics without any pressure. Level 2 raises the technical bar for players ready to expand their knowledge, and Level 3 is aimed at ambitious 10 to 16 year olds working on physical and mental preparation and on-course strategy. Every level plays on the course at least once a month, because golf is learned on grass, not just on a range.

We're not just teaching swing mechanics. We're teaching kids not to get frustrated after a bad shot, how to compete with a smile, and how to enjoy a sport they can play for the rest of their lives.

For families visiting during the holidays, our Junior Camps run year-round with small groups, food and equipment included, and a final day on the course complete with tournaments and surprises. Our coaching team is genuinely multilingual, covering English, Spanish, Swedish, German, Dutch, French and Russian between them, so language is rarely a barrier to a child settling in fast.

At the more ambitious end sits the Junior Elite Program, built around a four stage player development plan: technique, skills, performance and competing. It's underpinned by a screening process covering physical, technical and even psychological factors, because coaching a future competitive player takes more than just fixing a grip. At Atalaya, that pathway can also combine with Study in Spain, our partnership with The American College in Spain, so a young player can pursue serious academics and serious golf in the same city.
